Sports Medicine is designed to explore human anatomy and physiology, and lays the foundation for further study of these sciences. Students will learn how the systems of the body function and interact through physical activity, develop an understanding of the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system, and recognize and evaluate sports injuries.
Through taking this course, students will be provided with an opportunity to study and apply the components of sports medicine, including injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being.
This knowledge serves as a platform for understanding the physiological response to injury and improving performance. Students taking this class may be eligible for an after-school sports medicine practicum with the school’s athletic department.
